Caitlin spends some in a mental health facility to get better. The cops are called and he is taken away. He is beating her up in public, not hidden in the car or a room. She goes into his car, he hits her, but this time it is different. She finally makes it home where Rogerson is waiting for her. He does not pick up and she is a ball of nerves the whole time she is there. She calls him endlessly to tell him that she is going to the lake house with Rina. On the day of her mother’s annual Fools Party, she does not meet with Rogerson. She has become an excellent liar about where certain marks come from so no one suspects that Rogerson is hurting her. Caitlin begins to wear long sleeve shirts and pants to cover up the many bruises Rogerson has given her. Their relationship becomes more of her trying not to piss him off. One day she is late to meet him and when she finally meets up with him, he is livid. From this point on they become exclusive. They hang out that night and she discovers that his father hits him. She didn’t think she would see him again but she sees him at the old person’s home both were volunteering at. He asks her to leave with him and she does. She is surprised when she sees him show up at the party. As she is leaving she gets his name, which he tells her is Rogerson.

He is very good looking and mysterious, everything the boys at her school are not.

After the game she meets a boy at a gas station. It is at a football game when she falls off of a pyramid that changes everything for her. Caitlin is not into it but she soon realizes how happy it makes her mother. Rina is Caitlin’s best friend and she forces Caitlin to try out for the cheerleading squad. Cass running away is all anyone can talk about at school.
